MR. COLLINS

AARON COLLINS
Associate Band Director
Email: aaron.collins@hayscisd.net

Aaron Collins currently serves as the Associate Director of Bands at Hays High School. Mr. Collins is a recent graduate from The University of Texas at San Antonio where he studied under the instruction of Ron Ellis, John Zarco, Eugene Dowdy and Joseph Cooper. As a student at UTSA, Mr. Collins performed with the UTSA Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Spirit of San Antonio marching band, San Antonio Wind Symphony as well as sang in the UTSA Men’s Choir. He has performed in various states across the United States as well as internationally. Prior to UTSA, Mr. Collins attended Canyon High School in New Braunfels, Texas where he served as a performer in the Canyon High School wind ensemble and Drum Major for the Cougar Marching Band.

In his time at UTSA, Mr. Collins served as an administrative associate for the first 5 years of the Spirit of San Antonio marching band where he played a major role in helping establish the traditions and excellence of the inaugural marching program. Mr. Collins also organized and established the SOSA Alumni band, which has continued to grow each year since. Due to his passion for music education and helping expose younger musicians to the collegiate band scene, Mr. Collins initiated a “SOSA Crew” program that serves as a free opportunity for any high school junior or senior band member to experience college game-day through the eyes of the collegiate marching band.

In San Antonio, Mr. Collins served as an active figure in the music community through his role in recruiting local musicians and serving as Director of the UTSA Summer Band Institute for middle and high school students. Mr. Collins has served three years as a marching technician and master class instructor for the John Paul Stevens High School band. In addition to his teachings at Stevens, Mr. Collins has also worked with other programs including Connally and Garcia Middle Schools as well as Claudia Taylor Johnson, Kerrville and O’Connor High Schools.

Mr. Collins is thrilled to be a member of the Hays community and enjoys working alongside the wonderful parents, teachers, administration, staff and most importantly, students that make up this well-known and highly respected program.
