Shawn Karson plays bassoon and contrabassoon with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Punta Gorda Symphony, Central Texas Philharmonic, and Brazos Valley Symphony.  Other orchestras include The Florida Orchestra, Savannah Philharmonic, and Austin Symphony. Other engagements include New Orleans Chamber Players, Miami Music Festival, National Music Festival, and an appearance with Trinity Laban Conservatory of Music and Dance Symphony Orchestra as guest principal bassoonist. Shawn enjoys traveling around the world to share powerful musical moments while forging everlasting relationships with those in the audience and on the stage.
When Shawn is not traveling and performing, he is a dedicated teacher and a champion of new music and has taken part in premiering works for solo bassoon, chamber and orchestral music alike. Based in Austin, TX, he teaches aspiring bassoonists around Central Texas, around the United States, and abroad.
A native of Fort Myers, FL, Shawn holds a Master of Music in Bassoon Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance from the Florida State University. His primary teachers include Kristin Wolfe Jensen and Jeff Keesecker.
