Mr. Zachary Gilbertson is excited to join the esteemed lesson/masterclass staff at Hays High School. Mr. Gilbertson earned his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of North Texas, where he studied tuba with Don Little and Matt Good. At North Texas, Mr. Gilbertson was a leader in the Green Brigade Marching Band. He also performed with the Wind Ensemble, Brass Band, and several chamber groups. He then completed a Master of Music in Tuba Performance at the University of Illinois, where he played with the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and Men’s Basketball Band. At Illinois, he studied tuba with Scott Tegge.

Mr. Gilbertson is currently the principal tuba of the SMART Orchestra. He has also performed with the Austin Symphonic Band and the Dallas Asian Winds. He maintains an active and diverse performance schedule that includes church music, polka, jazz, and even rock.

Before moving to Central Texas, Mr. Gilbertson taught tuba at Terrell Independent School District and Garland Independent School District. He is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree at Texas State University. In his free time, he enjoys watching football and going on walks with his dog, Gregson.
