Mr. Gonzales is a graduate of Texas State University, where he studied under the direction of Dr. Kyle Glaser. During his time at TXST, he studied Music Education with Dr. John Denis, Dr. Alec Sherer, Dr. Jordan Stern, and Raul Rodriguez. Mr. Gonzales graduated with the TMEA Collegiate Music Educator Award.

Before joining the director team, Mr. Gonzales worked at Hays High School starting in 2021 as a marching tech, then added responsibilities as a Private Lesson and Masterclass Teacher. Mr. Gonzales completed his student teaching at Hays HS under our very own Mr. Aaron Collins. During this time, Mr. Gonzales also worked as a freelance brass specialist, teaching private lessons and masterclasses at Barton MS and Chapa MS. 

Mr. Gonzales performed in several ensembles at Texas State University, including the Bobcat Marching Band, Bobcat Basketball Band, Jazz Lab Band, Symphonic Winds, and Salsa Del Rio. He also comes to us with an extensive career in the Marching Arts, having marched Drum Corps from 2018-2022. Mr. Gonzales marched euphonium at the Guardians DBC in ‘18, and performed as a euphonium soloist in ‘19 as well as serving as section leader. Starting in 2020, Mr. Gonzales marched baritone and trombone at the Boston Crusaders DBC from ‘20-’22 and was a mic’ed performer in 2022 when the Boston Crusaders won the Silver Medal at DCI World Championships.

Mr. Gonzales is incredibly excited to join the Hays High School Director Team and continue to work with the wonderful students and staff in the Hays community!
