Joel Garber
Email: [email protected] Joel Garber is an applied clarinet instructor for the Hays Consolidated Independent School District and serves as E-flat clarinetist with the Northeast Wind Symphony in San Antonio, Texas. He previously served as principal clarinetist with the Southeast Kansas Symphony, utility clarinetist with the Four States Symphonic Winds, and section clarinetist with Pinnacle Winds. Joel is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance at the Texas State University School of Music, where he also serves as a Graduate Assistant in Music Education. A recent graduate of Pittsburg State University, Joel earned degrees in Music Education and Clarinet Performance, graduating summa cum laude. During his time at PSU, he served as principal clarinetist of the PSU Wind Ensemble and drum major of the Pride of the Plains Marching Band. Recognized for performances across the United States, Joel has appeared at the Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma Music Educators Association conventions, as well as at the International Clarinet Association 2025 ClarinetFest. He has also performed with the Fredericksburg Music Festival Orchestra and was selected as a Clarinet Fellow at the Newfound Chamber Winds Summer Music Festival. Joel is a two-time winner of the PSU Concerto & Aria Competition and has also won the Four States Symphonic Winds Concerto Competition and the Texas State Concerto & Aria Competition. He has additionally been named as a semifinalist in the Naftzger Young Artist Competition and recipient of the Priscilla Schrag Award from the PSU Department of Music. At Texas State, he has received awards for Excellence in Orchestral Playing, Outstanding Performance in Band, and Outstanding Achievement within the Woodwinds Department. His primary teachers include Joanne Britz, Charles Beard, Ray Nimmo, and Vanguel Tangarov. In addition to his performance work, Joel has taught woodwind techniques in the Webb City, Missouri and Neodesha, Kansas school districts. |
