HAWK JAZZ BAND
The Hays High School Jazz band is taught by Roxanne Vickers. Membership in the Jazz Band requires director approval. This ensemble is devoted to the study and performance of jazz history, theory, and literature. A student must be a member of one of the primary music ensembles at Hays High School in order to be a member of the Jazz Band, however piano, guitar, bass & vocals are the exceptions at the discretion of the band director. Members of the HHS Jazz Band are highly encouraged to audition for the TMEA All-Region Jazz Band. Members of the Jazz Ensemble will compete/perform at various concerts and competitions on and off campus. The groups are often requested at various district and community events throughout the year. HAYS JAZZ EDUCATION TEAM
The Jazz Education Team (JET) is a group of professional Jazz instructors that offer guidance to our members in the Hays Jazz program. The JET meets with our students once a week for Jazz master classes, focused on preparing members for the Region, Area and All-State audition process as well as introducing ourJazz members to a variety of Jazz performance techniques and improve mastery. The members of the JET are also available for students to enroll in Jazz focused private lessons. Students interested in taking private lessons through members of the JET should consult with Mr. Gonzales.
