High School Student only!!!  Something that was not previously on the schedule is a Spring Football game between the A/B team on Wed. May 23rd. The whole band is being asked to meet at the band hall at 5:20 the scrimmage will be over by 8:00. We will be on the visitor side( in the shade) the scrimmage begins at 6:15 for parents wanting to attend the event. Students should Wear band shirt and Khaki shorts.

Spring Band Picnic for High school students ONLY!!! The picnic will be May 22nd at the Kyle Pool again. Admission is $5 per person the whole family is welcome to attend but each person must pay $5. We will not be handing out tickets but will be keeping a list of who has paid to check you off at the gate to the pool area. We are asking that you please pay in advance so that we prepare enough food. Meal will include Hamburgers and hotdogs and all the trimmings, desserts, chips and fruit as usual. Seniors are free and they are allowed two free parent tickets as well. SENIORS YOU MUST RSVP even if you are not paying. We need a head count of the seniors attending since we do a special presentation/gifts /recognition of all the seniors. You can turn in your money to Mrs. Luther IF you missed todays deadline please get yourmoney to Mrs. Luther by Monday.

If you have high school students there are forms on the haysbands.org website where you can place an ad honoring your student in next year’s football program. Costs and explanations are on the forms. Addie Keller is in our band and also a cheerleader and they are placing orders through June the 20th. Check out the website or contact the Keller’s at 312-5522.

FINAL Scrip order for the spring we will be taking final orders May 21st at the BEGINNING of the Freshman parent meeting. If you are not going to be at that meeting you can still drop off your order a table will be set up in the back of the band hall. We will also be taking orders over the weekend Saturday from 5-9 pm and Sunday from 10 am-3:30 pm at Kathy Cavin’s home.

June marching camp will be June 4,5,6,7th from 9-11:30 for all High school band students. Officers will have work days in the afternoons till 4:00 and on Friday. The boosters will be selling ice cream and popsicles at 11:30 for $1. Send money with your students and help us raise $$$ to support our Scrip program. There are some costs that we incur to participate in the program. The kids will appreciate a cool treat following marching camp. This will be in JUNE ONLY>

Please remember to get your Band Picnic tickets by Friday May 18th.  We need to get an accurate head count.  The entire family may come but each person is $5.  Seniors and 2 guests are free.  Other family members are $5 each.  You must RSVP even if you are not paying.   So feel free to invite the family  but we must have a head count in order to provide enough food.  You can turn in your money to Mrs. Luther anytime this week and she will add you to our list. The picnic is May 22nd at the Kyle pool. As most of you have heard by now Mr. Gibbs is retiring and Mr. Huston is moving with his family to the Fort Worth area. We are planning a reception following the High School Band concert on May 14th. The concert begins at 7:00. The jazz Band will be playing in the foyer prior to the concert for about 20-30 minutes so come out and enjoy some great JAZZ!!! We hope you can all join us for the concert and the reception following the concert as we wish them well in their new endeavors. Middle school students should feel free to attend. The Hays High School Band Concert Monday night (May 14) will be on broadcast on Ustream.  There may be people from out of town, or those that just can't be here who would like to watch.  You can access it by Googling Ustream.  Once you get to that site you type hayscisd PAC, and it will take you to the live feed.  It's case sensitive, so it needs to be typed exactly as it's seen here.  Thanks!

My name is James Collins, I'm a freshman Tenor Sax in W.E. at Hays, and I'm working to earn my Eagle Scout Rank. For my project, I am relandscaping the flagpole area at Hays High School. I am running a plant sponsorship fundraiser from May 7-18. For $50, you can sponsor a plant to be used in the landscape and get a 6x4 inch commemorative plaque beside it with whatever you want on it, or for $35 you can sponsor a plant w/o the plaque and still get recognition later on. Would you please forward this information to the band boosters and parents? I would greatly appreciate the word getting spread around on this. Hello Band Booster

Relay for LIFE May 11 Students will need to wear their band shirts and shorts. Meet at the band hall at 6:00 to warm up.  They will walk over to Barton and should be done by 7:00 and ready for pick up shortly after that.

Just a brief update on upcoming events.

Remember Scrip orders are due by the booster meeting on the 23rd of April.  There is a new order form. It will be posted to the website soon. I shaded every other row to make it easier on the eyes. Scrip Cards with bonuses this month: JCPenney 2% bonus – 7% total rebate Land’s End 2% bonus – 18% total rebate

Kathy Cavin will be available to accept orders starting on Saturday, the 21st. Kathy will be at Chapa MS the early part of the day with MS Solo & Ensemble, if anyone wants to meet her there. She will be home in the evening. Folks can call me to set up a time on Sunday.
 
MANY of you have asked me how the scrip program works.  This is a fundraiser to raise money for YOUR students’ travel account.   I( Theresa) make about $40- $50 each month for Matt’s account.  It is simple.  I look and see where we spend our money on each month.  HEB, Walmart, Walgreens, Subway, Taco Bell, Chilis, Pizza Hut, Papa Murphy’s, and Kohl’s - and I plan accordingly.  I take the money I would normally spend  at these places and place an order for the month.  Then over the following month I use the gift cards to pay for my gas, groceries, prescriptions, and dining out and of course the clothes we purchase.  Another example is if you know you need to make a big purchase like Judy needed a dishwasher.  She went and priced it at Home Depot and purchased the cards for the dishwasher amount through scrip and then went and bought her dishwasher.  This made lots of money for her sons account.  I encourage you to participate as payments  for the trip will start being due very soon.  If you have questions please call me or one of the scrip coordinators: Judy Chida or Kathy Cavin.  We are happy to explain it.  information is also in great detail on the website Haysbands.org
 
Remember the big trip is next spring.  Information will be coming out soon about the cost.  Last time the cost was between $1500 and $1600.  This program is here to help you start putting money in the student account to pay for the trip.  IT is basically FREEEEEE MONEY!!!!!!  Our last order for the year will be placed in May on the 21st.  There are only 2 more orders being placed this year.  April 23rd and May 21st.  We will not do orders over the summer until August when school resumes.
 
Good Luck to our Middle school Band students who are participating in Solo and Ensemble on Saturday. 

Reminder that the end of Year Band Booster thank you to the volunteer party is being hosted by Jim and Janet Wallgren on April 28th beginning at 5:00.  Bring a dish to share and Bring your own cooler of drinks.  We hope our great volunteers this year can make it to celebrate a year well done!!! Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to the band. Invitation is on the website with directions to their home. 

Congrats to the High School bands on their continued success at UIL last week.  We are so proud of their hard work and dedication.

Scrip order deadline is at the meeting on March 26th.  Place your orders and start putting money in your student travel account.  You can drop off orders at Kathy Cavin’s home Saturday between 3-8 and Sunday between 12-6.  Her phone number and address are on the website.  Haysbands.org

Pizza hut Dining for $$$ is Tuesday March 27th the flyer is attached or you can download it from the website.  We get 20% of the proceeds from this event so please support the band and make sure you take the flyer with you when you pick up your pizza or give it to the delivery man if you have it delivered.  Remember Tuesday night is $10 pasta night at Pizza Hut!!!

Hi again, as promised here is the update on the visit and performance by the Baylor Symphonic Band.  The band will perform at our PAC on Wednesday, March 28th at 2 p.m.  If you have the time, you are very welcome to attend.  If you have volunteered to house a student overnight, you will need to pick them up at the PAC between 5:30 and 6 pm, take them home for dinner, and then return them to Hays High School Music Building by 7:45 am, on Thursday, March 29th. 
We are still in need of volunteers for about 30 of the students for housing. Please contact Mrs. Luther if you can take a few students for the evening.

Thank you potluck dinner for all our great Band Booster volunteers will be April 28th at the home of Jim and Janet Walgren.  Party starts at 5:00 bring a dish to share and bring your own cooler full of your favorite drinks.
